The Chairman of the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) George Soutar, CD, along with fellow Directors, the management and staff of the Foundation would like to, through you Mr. Watts, in your capacity as Team Manager, extend our congratulations to Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson on their absolutely astounding performances on the biggest stage, the Olympics.
It is absolutely remarkable that Elaine has broken a record that many thought to be unbreakable after 33 years. She went even further to retain her Olympic title, a feat which is a rarity, and all this after overcoming injury and the covid-19 pandemic.
Shelly-Ann has already left us searching for superlatives with her numerous titles, including 2008 and 2012, but her come back after giving birth to their wonderful son and running 10.63 seconds is just amazing, to say the least
Shericka, having distinguished herself in the 400m, has switched to the sprints and now makes it commonplace to do a personal best almost every time she runs.
For these three home grown, born and bred Jamaican women to take on the might of the world, in the middle of a pandemic and sweep to victory over all else is an achievement worthy of the highest accolades. To all who have contributed to this magnificence we say thanks. To their coaches, the JAAA, the JOA, their families we say thanks on behalf of all Jamaicans at home and in the diaspora.
Jamaica is forever in the debt of these women, who have sacrificed to take us all with them to the pinnacle of world athletics.
