The SDF has been established as an independent public body by the Government of Jamaica with responsibility for the development of sport in Jamaica. This is achieved by:

• Building & Repairing Sports infrastructure at the National Community and School Levels
• Funding the development of National Sporting Association
• Funding the G.C. Foster College of Physical Education & Sports
• Funding sports programmes at the community level through the Social Development Commission and the Institute of Sports
• Funding sports programmes at the school level through the Institute of Sports
• Honing and supporting athletes in all sports through an Athletes Welfare Fund

We only fund sports of governing bodies that are recognized by the Jamaica Olympic Association and are registered with the respective international sporting bodies.
