When Inez Turner went up to receive her plaque at the JAAA/Jamalco Puma Development meet on Saturday, the former national junior and senior 800 metres champion paused the photo opportunity and asked the organisers to invite the Vere Technical team to take part in the proceedings.

Last Saturday, Olympian and former Vere Technical High middle-distance star Inez Turner had a quick five-minute talk with members of the track team at her alma mater during the JAAA/Jamalco Development meet in Clarendon and according to head coach Christopher Harley, the athletes soaked up the short and sweet motivational speech.

For more than a century there has been a Jamaican athlete that has impressed someone, somewhere across the world. The early days of cricket tours in and out of the West Indies, international boxing cards, football, netball and host of other sports, served a bit of a signal to the world that Jamaica was and continues to be a big part of any sport conversation.
